Our History: ELIQUO MALMBERG WATER’s Journey since 1866
On April 7, 1866, in the small village of Yngsjö in Skåne, 23-year-old blacksmith Jöns Mattisson-Malmberg founded a company that would shape Sweden’s water management. With a passion for water, Jöns developed innovative drilling techniques and filtration methods to quickly and efficiently reach clean groundwater. As early as the 1880s, the first wells were drilled, laying the foundation for the company’s future direction.
During the 20th century, with the growth of the modern welfare state, the demand for running fresh water in households increased. In the 1930s and 40s, the first wastewater treatment plants were built, and the post-war boom years brought a constantly growing demand for larger drilling projects and water plants for both municipalities and companies.
The company’s expertise in water treatment led naturally towards biogas production as a renewable energy source. In addition, its experience in well drilling paved the way for Sweden’s first groundwater heating system, which in turn resulted in a focus on geoenergy.
In September 2024, a new era was marked when ELIQUO WATER GROUP, through its subsidiary Enwa AS, acquired 100% of the shares in Malmberg Water AB. This merger further strengthened the position in the Nordic market for water treatment and environmental technology.
From a simple smithy in Yngsjö to becoming part of a leading European water treatment group, ELIQUO MALMBERG WATER has, through innovation and commitment to sustainability, contributed to clean water and a better environment for over 150 years.
